DJ Equipment - DJ Mixers
The heart of any DJ system is the DJ mixer. Without it, how would all the different sources to be heard get into one set of speakers? They wouldn’t without unplugging one source to plug in another; you can’t do much mixing that way. The DJ mixer also provides needed extra gain to drive a set of speakers up to a loud volume where the source alone can not. So the DJ mixer allows multiple functions to happen at once.
You can mix and match input types, listen to 2 different sources at the same time to cue the next source for playback or beat matching, match the volumes between sources, send the source to an effects processor and mix it back in with the original, change the tone of the source with eq, cross fade the sources, and speak to the crowd with a mic, all with the DJ mixer. Two inputs or six inputs, DJ mixers all function pretty much the same way; the differences are hardware or software mixer types, with or without effects, eq, etc.
There are many types of DJ mixers and the one for your needs will depend on what type of equipment you have and what you want to grow into in the future. If you are serious about your DJ career, ponder how you might take the next step in your equipment and your DJ evolution.
